A glorious past

Agliè, at the centre of the beautiful region of Canavese, possesses a majestic barock castle, already holiday residence of the Savoy royal family and now inserted in the Unesco World Heritage's sites' list. It is highly recommended a visit to the castle and his park.

Agliè offers another marvel of barock: the church of Santa Marta, that will amaze you for its lines and its decorations, which render this church a jewel.

In the surroundings of Agliè there are in addition many other castles, both medieval, and barock (to name just some: S.Giorgio Canavese, Mazzè, Masino, Rivarolo, Pavone Canavese, Rivara, Ivrea, Ozegna), wich are worthy a visit. A curiosity to discover are the ricetti, with their gate-towers  and the medieval houses closed inside the walls of the village (Oglianico, Salassa, Torre, Pavone, Ozegna, Piverone). Highly picturesque and suggestive is the nearby village of Torre Canavese, open-air museum of contemporary paintings.

A few hundred metres from Villa Morenica it is possible to visit Villa Meleto, where the "twilight" poet Guido Gozzano lived.

Ask the keeper of Villa Morenica informations about the visits and opening times.
